Food insecurity is a major challenge in rural Kenya, and Oleleshwa Farm was established in 2013 as a model farm to address this issue as part of our agriculture and food security efforts. Oleleshwa Farm plays a critical role in empowering local farmers and learners by teaching modern agricultural techniques and sustainable farming practices that can be implemented at the community and household levels.
The farm features 24 greenhouses, expansive open fields, and dedicated training spaces where participants gain hands-on experience in improving crop yields and adopting climate-resilient practices. Oleleshwa supports local food security by identifying drought-resistant crops, These programs have had a profound impact on health in the region.
Additionally, Oleleshwa Farm is home to a bee and pollinator program that enhances biodiversity and supports sustainable farming by promoting healthy pollination practices. This initiative strengthens local ecosystems while offering new opportunities for farmers to generate income through honey production. Oleleshwa Farm is a cornerstone of MRCDO’s efforts to build resilient, food-secure communities.
